Woodford Vehicle Rentals Hosts Teambuilding at Zwartkops Raceway
At a time when the South African spirit is somewhat depressed due to recent political and economic upheavals, Woodford Vehicle Rentals, the trucking and logistics wing of the Woodford Group, is going all out to embrace and enhance the company team spirit to the ultimate benefit of its customers.
This kicked off with a team building and strategy session held recently at Zwartkops Raceway, Pretoria when the Durban-based company flew in the team – spanning admin, support staff and senior management – to attend a workshop that included a track session and an Advanced BMW Driving Course.
As Group Managing Director, Owais Suleman, explains: “The retreat had a dual purpose. The first was to pull the team together from around the country to strategise and speak about where we’re headed as a company. The second was to show our appreciation to staff and team members who’ve worked very hard to get us to where we are today.”
Apart from the theoretical training, briefings and certification sessions, the Advanced BMW Driving Course also had special resonance with the participants.
“Our team know what it’s like to be behind a high-powered, performance machine in the shape of Woodford Vehicle Rentals. We know what it’s like to push ourselves to be the best, so we thought – why not get behind the wheel of a BMW and do the same?” said Mr. Suleman.
He added that the experience was one befitting of a young, energetic team that relishes the challenge of the pressure and requirements demanded of the day-to-day operations of a trucking and logistics supplier. “The attendees brought a similar energy to both the track and event, with invaluable insights into where the company and team can improve moving forward.”
Shaun Chetty, senior member from the Pinetown branch, thanked both Woodford and the directors for what he described as an awesome experience. “We’re lucky to be on board with this vision and we’re looking forward to exciting times ahead.”
Commenting on the overall experience, Mr Suleman felt the exercise was beneficial to all who attended: “We’ve learned a lot from this session. Apart from gaining exposure on team dynamics and improving group morale, the Zwartkops trip also gave us an increased appreciation on just how far we’ve come as a company and the enviable position we find ourselves in,” he said. “Woodford Vehicle Rentals has managed to occupy a unique role in the trucking and logistics industry and we fully intend adding more value and leveraging our talents in that role.”
The team building sessions held at Zwartkops was the first of many similar events that will be held within Woodford Vehicle Rentals and the Woodford Group – a 25-year-old company that has managed to cement itself as a major player in the rentals market. The next team building session will involve some 100 truck drivers over two days at an event hosted at Kyalami in July 2017.
