Durban is once again (top)gearing up for the arrival of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, James May, and of course, The Stig with the Top Gear Festival due to kick off this weekend.
Top Gear events have in the past taken place in South Africa in Johannesburg and Cape Town – along with 16 other cities around the world – but after debuting in Durban last year, the show returns to the coastal city for another two days – Saturday, the 15th and Sunday, the 16th June.
The iconic Moses Mabhida and the People’s Park will play host to the Festival, with the Durban Street Circuit being set up to showcase an assortment of cars that will have petrolheads red-lining their excitement levels. The line-up on the grid includes Infiniti Red Bull Racing’s Formula One car, driven by Top Gear’s The Stig.
Among the stalls, exhibitions, stunt shows and the main event itself, some 80 000 fans will get the chance to see, and be up close to the Formula One Campionship-winning car when it’s driven on a specially-laid track inside the Stadium during the live show. Other highlights will include precision driving by the masterful Top Gear Stunt Team, a game of motorised sidecar polo (doomed for certain collisions), and Jeremy Clarkson taking on The Stig with the help from – wait for it… the armed forces.
The Festival aims to build on the excitement from last year and deliver bigger thrills by expanding both the circuit and the exhibition space, welcoming both local and visiting spectators to the warm city of Durban.
Woodford Car Hire will match that warmth and hospitality by offering visitors the chance to arrive in style at the Top Gear Festival. Book with Woodford, collect your vehicle at King Shaka International Airport and roll into Durban with the racey Golf VI for as little as R427 a day, or enjoy some opulence and turn heads by arriving at Moses Mabhida with a Mercedes or BMW for just R505 – depending on the deal you choose.
The Stig might rule the track at the Top Gear Festival, but with Woodford Car Hire, you’re always in the driving seat.
